COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Cape May County.
The winter storm warning remains in effect from Mon., Jan. 26 at noon to Tues., Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, snow redeveloping from northeast to southwest overnight and becoming heavy at times. The heaviest snow will occur overnight and Tuesday morning when snowfall rates of an inch per hour can occur at times within heavier bands. The snow is expected to taper off Tuesday afternoon.
Snow accumulations are predicted to be between 6-12 inches.
Temperatures in the 20s.
A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow is expected and strong winds are possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible at times.Visibility will be one quarter mile or less at times.
National Weather Service has also issued a coastal flood warning for coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware.
The coastal flood warning remains in effect from Mon., Jan. 26 at 11 p.m. to Tues., Jan. 27 at 7 a.m.
Moderate flooding is anticipated around the time of Monday night’s high tide.
At Cape May (Oceanfront), high tide occurs at 1:24 a.m. Tuesday with a forecast tide level 7.5 to 8.0 feet above mean lower low water.
According to the National Weather Service, numerous roadways will flood and minor to moderate property damage is likely. The tides and wave action will result in moderate to severe beach erosion.
Coastal flood warning indicates that moderate or major tidal flooding is imminent or occurring. Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.
Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs.
