COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning, coastal flood warning and wind advisory for Cape May County.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Thursday. A coastal flood warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Thursday. A wind advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Winter Storm Warning
According to NWS, a pair of low pressure systems will consolidate into one major nor`easter later Tuesday and Wednesday. This is expected to significantly impact our region, beginning with areas of mixed precipitation today and tonight, then significant snowfall during Wednesday.
Heaviest snow is expected later Wednesday, producing hourly accumulation rates of 1 to 3 inches. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, and ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible, making for potentially hazardous travel conditions.
Coastal Flood Warning
Coastal areas of Cape May County are expected to experience minor flooding with Tuesday late evening high tide. Moderate flooding is expected with the high tides on Wednesday and Wednesday night.
The accompanying surge should range from 1.5 feet to 3.0 feet, with waves running 10 to 20 feet off the coast through Wednesday night.
Roadway flooding in areas prone to tidal or storm-related flooding should be expected, along with moderate beach erosion.
This Coastal Flood Warning means that moderate tidal flooding is imminent. Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials.
Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be
deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in
danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs.
Wind Advisory
Winds will increase through the day Tuesday, becoming northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Driving conditions may be hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles. Light-weight outdoor objects such as patio furniture and garbage cans should be secured.
