COURT HOUSE — In efforts to help provide assistance and relief to home owners in Cape May County struggling with the historic rise in the local water table due to the tough winter; Sen. Jeff Van Drew asked the Governor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police for a meeting to assist residents of the First Legislative District, to which both agreed.
According to a release, Van Drew appreciates the help that the Governor’s Office and the State Police have provided. The meeting was held April 8 at Cape May County Emergency Management.
The emergency meeting was held with representatives from the State Police Emergency Management, Cape May County Emergency management, and local municipalities. This meeting was used to help relay information to the State Police on the efforts local government has done to help combat various flooding issues that have resulted from the historic storms of the past winter.
After hearing how hard the county and municipalities have worked to resolve all flooding issues, and hearing the stories that many home owners relayed to local offices, State Police are willing to do an assessment of their resources and to help supplement the exhausting resources of the county. State Police are receptive to the hardship placed on area residents due to a non-receding water table that keeps residents from having consistent success in pumping out their homes and understand the difficulty that local government has had with assisting home owners, the release stated.
“Realizing that this truly has been an unprecedented winter, I give my sincere gratitude to the New Jersey State Police, who in cooperation with Governor Christie’s office have shown their willingness to help home owners preserve their properties,” Van Drew said.
“As a homeowner myself, I understand the anxiety that many of our constituents share in maintaining their home. I want the residents of the First Legislative District to know that I have faith in that the New Jersey State Police share the same feelings and will be a valuable asset to Cape May County’s relief efforts.”
