COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which remains in effect from 1 a.m. until noon Feb. 5.
Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with the highest accumulations on unpaved surfaces.
National Weather Service’s latest snowfall forecast map (shown left) shows potential snow accumulations for our area.
Precipitation will begin as rain, but as temperatures fall overnight, the rain will mix with and change to snow during the overnight hours.
Snow will impact the Friday morning rush hour and could cause slick spots, mainly on secondary roadways as well as on sidewalks.
A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
According to a post on local meteorologist Dan Skeldon’s Facebook page, “Showers will redevelop later today and become a steady rain overnight. After midnight, sometime between 2-4 a.m. on the mainland and by 3-5 a.m. along the shore, the rain will change to snow from northwest to southeast.
“The window for steadiest snow is fairly brief, from the time of changeover late tonight through early Friday morning, let’s say around 4-8 a.m. for most of South Jersey. Snow tapers to flurries by late morning, and the sun will be out by afternoon as the northwest breezes kick up.
“While the ground is warm and that may limit accumulations initially, especially on the roads, the snow should eventually stick, especially if the snow can fall at a decent clip for a few hours around or before sunrise. So expect the most snow on unpaved surfaces, though untreated roads will eventually get some accumulation as well.”
