UPDATE: Those who are in need of shelter, go to the Villas Fire Department beginning 4 p.m. today. If transportation is needed, call 886-01619 ext. 201. Please make sure to bring essentials for a couple of days. The animal shelter is also open as of 12 noon today. Be advised, emergency personnel will not be responding to calls once wind gusts exceed 75 mph or when water levels exceed the flood stage.
Lower Township has been declared in a State of Emergency effective immediately. Residents should be aware of the impending storm. Please take safety precautions to protect you and your family. Evacuation is encouraged for all residents and mandatory evacuation has been ordered to include Diamond Beach, Shawcrest, Schellingers Landing, and low lying areas prone to flooding. Curfew will be in effect 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. starting Oct. 28 for the areas under mandatory evacuation. All other residents be advised – curfew will be in effect beginning Oct. 29, 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
