COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a coastal flood warning, which will be in effect from 6 p.m. Sept. 29 to 1 a.m. Sept. 30. The coastal flood advisory is no longer in effect.
Water levels have remained elevated since this morning’s high tide with moderate coastal flooding already occurring in some areas.
Send your flooding pictures to newswatch@cmcherald.com.
According to NWS, ongoing coastal flooding is expected and will peak with the high tide which will occur between 7 and 9 p.m. on the oceanfront. High tide on the Delaware Bay and back bays may occur up to three hours later.
Tides will be around 2 feet above astronomical tides. Heavy rain at the time of high tides could exacerbate coastal flooding, leading to total water levels even higher.
Roadway flooding is expected near high tide.
At least minor tidal inundation flooding is anticipated with the Friday morning high tide cycle, and possibly again Friday evening.
A coastal flood warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs.
NWS has also issued a wind advisory for coastal South Jersey which is now in effect until 6 a.m. Sept. 30.
Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph continue, with scattered gusts of 45 to 50 mph through tonight.
Small tree limbs may break causing a few power outages. High profile vehicles will be subject to unexpected and uncontrolled movement in strong gusts.
Northeast winds will diminish Friday morning, according to NWS.
A wind advisory means that very windy conditions are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult. Light-weight outdoor objects such as patio furniture and garbage cans should be secured.
