Surf’s Up, Otherwise Earl Fizzles Out

By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY — As a downgraded Earl approached South Jersey well offshore, surfers were taking advantage of swells and high waves during the noon hour Fri., Sept. 3.
Spectators were gathering on the beach to look at the high surf and surfers.
At Cape May’s Cove Beach, Philadelphia’s 6ABC had set up during the noon for live video coverage. At noon, winds were light as well as the rain with a temperature of 82 degrees.
At 3:30 p.m., the ocean became a tourist attraction at Hereford Inlet Park in North Wildwood with a crowd gathering near Second Avenue and JFK Beach Drive to watch the high waves. Meanwhile, life went on as usual on the Wildwood Boardwalk that was not affected by the storm.
