COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch, which remains in effect until 11 p.m. Feb. 24.
According to local meteorologist Dan Skeldon, a tornado watch does not mean that a tornado is imminent. But it means that conditions are favorable for the potential for strong thunderstorms that may produce strong, damaging winds, and the possibility of a tornado.
National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory, which remains in effect from 6 p.m. Feb. 24 to midnight Feb. 25.
According to National Weather Service, south winds of 20 to 25 mph are expected with some gusts up to 50 mph.
Strongest winds should occur near bands of heavy showers or thunderstorms, primarily this evening. Winds are expected to diminish quickly around midnight.
The wind will affect handling of high profile vehicles and there may be some tree damage and associated power outages where the scattered 50 mph gusts occur.
A wind advisory means that very windy conditions are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Light-weight outdoor objects such as patio furniture and garbage cans should be secured.
