STONE HARBOR MANOR — According to Middle Township police captain John Edwards, access to and from Stone Harbor Manor and Stone Harbor via Stone Harbor Boulevard may soon be terminated.
“It looks as though we’re going to lose Stone Harbor Boulevard,” Edwards told the Herald. “It’s passable right now, but the water is at the edge of the road.”
The captain described the back bay along Stone Harbor Boulevard as looking like the ocean. “There are whitecaps on the back bay,” he said.
Cape Regional Medical Center, which sits on the west side of the Garden State Parkway, has not been affected by flooding, said Edwards.
According to Edwards evacuation of township residents living in areas most likely to be affected by flooding caused by the wrath on Hurricane Sandy occurred yesterday.
“Everybody who wanted out, got out,” said Edwards, noting many residents throughout the township opted to stay in their homes.
A county shelter set up inside Middle Township Elementary School No. 2 currently houses 40 evacuees.
Edwards said if anyone in the township, whether on a barrier island or the mainland feels the need to evacuate, they are encouraged to contact township authorities.
“If any Middle Township resident feel they need to get out, they can call the Middle Township Emergency Operation Center at 609-463-1833,” said Edwards. “As long as conditions permit and we can get to them, we will.”
