June 28 Thunderstorm Whips Cape

By Al Campbell

NORTH CAPE MAY — Late in the afternoon on Mon., June 28, a thunderstorm blew through lower Cape May County felling many tree branches and causing minor damage.
In addition, the fast-moving storm dumped just under a half inch of rain in Court House.
The downpour was so heavy about 5:15 p.m. that traffic on Route 9 and Garden State Parkway was slowed, and many motorists pulled to the side of the road until the deluge subsided.
Herald reader Christopher Crespo from North Cape May sent some photos of damaged trees that resulted from the storm.
“High winds took down several trees in our yard on Monday 6 p.m. June 28 Orchard Drive, Damaged our shed and fence,” Crespo reported.
