VILLAS – Lower Township officials and Shore Animal Control advise residents to bring pets indoors during the upcoming extreme weather and freezing temperatures anticipated Jan. 20 night into Jan. 22.
Shore Animal Control Services made a plea, in a release, to the public to report animals that might have been left out in the cold, by calling Shore Animal Control at 1 800- 351-1822. Regular patrols of the municipalities are currently a regular routine, but animal control continues to request help from the public for animals in backyards that cannot be visible from the streets.
Lower Township’s ordinance reads as follows: “Extreme weather. In extreme weather below 32° and above 90° and in major storms where evacuation is recommended, all outdoor dogs and indoor/outdoor cats (with the exception of feral cats) must be brought indoors whether tethered or kenneled, unless the kennel is heated or air conditioned in accordance with the safety code. Indoors will include any area of the residence and shall conform to the above temperature specifications and must be adequately ventilated.”
Again, residents in Lower Township, Wildwood, Woodbine, Upper Township, North Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and West Cape May can report violations of these township ordinances by calling Shore Animal Control at 1 800- 351-1822 and the officers will investigate.
