COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Director Dan Beyel announced today that the County’s emergency road project put in place to repair roads damaged during the 2010 winter season is complete.
During the week of May 3, 2010, South State, Inc. paved Dias Creek Road, County Road No. 612, from Mechanic Street to Stites Avenue in the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township. The existing asphalt pavement was removed to a depth of five (5) inches and replaced with three (3) inches of hot mix asphalt base course and two (2) inches of hot mix asphalt surface course.
Also, South State removed asphalt pavement on Stone Harbor Boulevard, County Road No. 657, between US Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway. The existing asphalt was removed to a depth of approximately 5 inches and the Contractor placed the base course immediately following the pavement removal. In addition, the northbound lane of Court House – South Dennis Road from US Route 9 north to Winding Way was milled and paved along with the eastbound right lane from Magnolia Avenue to US Route 9.
Additionally, South State removed pavement on Ocean Drive, County Road No. 619, from 4th Avenue to 11th Street in Avalon. The existing asphalt pavement was removed to a depth of five (5) inches and replaced with three (3) inches of hot mix asphalt base course and two (2) inches of hot mix asphalt surface course.
The repair project was part of the 2010 Emergency Road Repair contract in the amount of over $1,189,180 awarded to South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, New Jersey by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders on March 23, 2010. Freeholder Director Beyel said, “The intent of this contract was to address some of the rough roadways in Cape May County. While there are many sections of roads that need to be addressed, due to funding limitations or upcoming utility work, only a limited number of roads could be repaired at this time.”
Prior to May, South State completed work on Bayshore Road (County Road No. 603), Goshen Road, (County Road No. 615), Fulling Mill Road (County Road No. 654), Academy Road (County Road No. 639), and Ocean Drive (County Road No. 619) in Lower Township.
Other roads not covered by this contract will be patched and repaired by the County Road Department.
