County: Over 5,000 Without Power

COUNTY UPDATE FRIDAY, FEB. 12 8 A.M.:
COURT HOUSE — According to Cape May County spokesperson Lenora Boninfante, at this time, Atlantic City Electric is reporting 5,301 customers without electricity. The Wildwoods Convention Center is providing shelter for 25 people. Residents in need of shelter should call their local offices of emergency management, local police departments or the County Office of Emergency Management at 463-6570.
Cape May County Government Offices are open today, Friday, February 12, 2010.
Cape May County Senior Centers are open with the exception of the North Wildwood Center.
Meals on Wheels are being delivered today and Fare Free Transportation is operating a normal schedule today; call 889-3700.
Cape May County Parks are open today; however, the Cape May County Zoo is closed today.
The Health Department has cancelled the Men’s CEED Clinic for today.
The Cape May County Museum offices are open. However, the Museum, located at 504 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House, will be closed on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13, 2010. The Museum will be open to the public on Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th.
COUNTY UPDATE THURSDAY, FEB. 11 2 P.M. :
COURT HOUSE — According to Cape May County spokesperson Lenora Boninfante, county road crews are plowing and salting roads and bridges. County roads are passable; however, there are icy patches. Motorists should drive cautiously with reduced speed.
At this time, Atlantic City Electric is reporting 7,103 customers without electricity. Residents in need of shelter should call their local offices of emergency management or local police departments. There are approximately 60 residents in local shelters in Cape May County.
Cape May County Government Offices are open.
Closings:
Cape May County Senior Centers are closed today but will reopen Friday with the exception of North Wildwood
Meals on Wheels will be delivered on Friday
Fare Free Transportation is only doing Dialysis runs today but will operate a normal schedule on Friday; call 889-3700
The Cape May County Park and Zoo is closed today but is expected to open tomorrow
The health department has cancelled Family Planning for Thursday and the Men’s CEED Clinic is cancelled for Friday
FROM COUNTY 8 A.M. UPDATE:
Residents in need of shelter are being taken to the Wildwoods Convention Center and the Woodbine Developmental Center from transitional sites set up in each community. Additionally, residents may drive their cars to either facility. Some communities have activated their Reverse 9.1.1 system for notification in their communities of the Super Shelters. No pets are allowed at either shelter location. At this time, there are more than 80 residents in shelters in Cape May County.
The Woodbine Developmental Center is servicing the eight northern municipalities; Avalon, Dennis Township, Middle Township, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, Upper Township and Woodbine. The Wildwoods Convention Center is being used as a shelter for the eight southern communities of Cape May, Cape May Point, Lower Township, North Wildwood, West Cape May, West Wildwood, City of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest.
The Red Cross is assisting the county with the operation of the shelters. They have provided strike teams consisting of medical, sheltering, food and general services. These teams along with volunteers are manning the shelters.
If you or someone you know is in need of sheltering, please contact your local police department or call the County Emergency Management Office at 609-463-6570 to speak with a Red Cross representative.
