AVALON — The Borough of Avalon, like and the rest of South Jersey, is bracing for a major winter storm during the first half of the weekend (Feb. 6). The National Weather Service posted a Blizzard Warning for Avalon and the rest of the county from 4 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Saturday. There is also a Coastal Flood Watch posted from 11 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday.
“This is a major storm that Avalon residents and visitors need to take very seriously,” stated Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi, who is also Avalon’s Emergency Management Coordinator. “We are prepared to handle this significant snowstorm, and there are ways the public can help us do our jobs better”.
Pagliughi and Avalon Public Information Director Scott Wahl attended a meeting at the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management on Thursday, Feb. 4. The National Weather Service briefed state, county, and local officials on the severity of the storm and what to expect.
Additionally, a public safety meeting chaired by Pagliughi was held at the Avalon Police Station Thursday afternoon to brief all department heads on the storm.
