MAYS LANDING – Winter Storm Toby’s heavy, wet snow, ice, and high winds has toppled trees and brought down tree limbs, downing utility poles, power lines and damaged electric equipment, causing electric service interruptions for customers. Atlantic City Electric’s entire Emergency Response Organization has been mobilized with all company resources dedicated to restoring service to customers as safely and efficiently as possible.
The majority of damage is centered in Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties. In addition to 180 internal linemen, Atlantic City Electric has an additional 131 overhead line contractors and 233 tree crew personnel working to restore service to the affected customers. More than 240 resources from Atlantic City Electric’s sister utility ComEd, in Chicago, are joining the effort to restore service to customers.
With the storm continuing to move through the region and the potential for additional damage to the local energy grid, the company is currently not able to provide estimated restoration times. Estimated restoration times are based on current conditions and damage. When a crew arrives on site and assess damage for a particular outage, they will provide an estimated restoration time. The company then continues to update the estimated restoration time as crews complete their work. It is too early to determine when service will be restored to all customers.
Atlantic City Electric urges customers to stay away from downed wires and assume that any downed wire is energized. To report an outage or downed wire, call 1-800-833-7476 or report and track through the company’s mobile app or website at www.atlanticcityelectric.com.
Customers should remain prepared for the possibility of additional outages as the storm unfolds.
