Warm your winter with local wines

This area’s three wineries help to round out the Cape May County culinary experience with their award-winning wines. Wine and dine the winter away with events sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC).
The Cape May Winery at 711 Town Bank Rd. in North Cape May has been producing award-winning wines for more than 10 years. Tour the vineyard to see how the grapes are grown, get an introduction to the winemaker’s art, and enjoy a barrel-tasting with cheese, fruit, and a sampling of five to six kinds of wine.
Admission is $20 per person and includes a complimentary tasting glass. Tours are offered at 3 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 17, Feb. 7, Feb. 14 and March 7-28. Additional tours are offered on Sundays, Jan. 18 and Feb. 15 at 3 p.m.
Enjoy an informative series of classes on making, judging, stocking and appreciating wines from around the globe as Keith Bader from Lauber Imports shares his knowledge of the world of wine at the Cape May Wine School.
The wine school class on Sunday, Jan. 18 will be at the Cape May Winery. The following classes will be held at the Washington Inn at 801 Washington St.: “California Wines, What’s New” on Sunday, Feb. 15 and “You say Syrah, I say Shiraz” on Sunday, Feb. 22. All classes are from 1-3 p.m. and admission is $30 per person.
Triple your enjoyment by combining a Wine Tasting Dinner, Winery Cellar Tour and Wine Tasting Class during the Cape May Wine Weekend. The weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 with a four-course dinner at the Washington Inn, with wines themed to the Sunday Wine School Class.
Guests will be treated to individual attention from the wine steward.
On Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m., visit the Cape May Winery for a tour of the vineyard, an introduction to the winemaker’s art, and a barrel tasting with cheese and fruit.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, learn about “California Wines—What’s New” at a 1 p.m. Wine School Class at the Washington Inn. The complete package is $135 per person.
On Sunday, Feb. 15 spend the afternoon visiting Cape May County’s wineries and sampling the unique flavors of each.
First board the MAC trolley, which will shuttle you to Lucky Bones Backwater Grille for lunch. Following lunch, the trolley will take you to Cape May Winery, Turdo Vineyard and Natali Vineyard, where you’ll learn about viticulture and visit the tasting rooms.
The Cape May Wine Trail is from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $75 and includes lunch, wine tastings at each vineyard and a wine tasting glass.
