WILDWOOD – Members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniform Patrol and Detective Divisions responded to the area of Wildwood Avenue and the beach Aug. 7 at approximately 7:08 p.m. for a reported drowning in the immediate area. During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that two swimmers were in need of assistance. Both swimmers were removed from the water and Wildwood fire personnel started CPR on one of the individuals, later identified as Adan Guevara of Rosedale, Md.
During the course of this investigation, units learned that Guevara attempted to rescue his 15-year-old nephew who signaled for help after being pulled out further from a strong current. Further investigation revealed that Guevara was vacationing in Wildwood when the incident occurred.
According to Guevara’s fiance, Elena Crasnopiorov, members from the Wildwood Beach Patrol along with two good Samaritans aided in the rescue of Guevara and his nephew. During the initial treatment of both individuals, Wildwood fire personnel confirmed that Guevara’s nephew had inhaled seawater and required additional treatment at Cape Regional Medical Center.
Subsequently, Guevara regained his pulse during transport to the hospital, however, he required the assistance of a ventilator to breath. At this point, further arrangements were made to transfer Guevara to Cooper University Hospital located in Camden. As of this release, Guevara’s status remains in critical condition.
