Upper Township 4.26.2006

I hope springtime in Upper Township is going well for everyone.
It’s a bit early to be thinking of September, but I wanted to let you know that the Ocean City Historical Museum (OCHM) has announced it will host its 19th Annual Museum Fair on September 9 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Ocean City Tabernacle Grounds.
Why am I telling you about this now? Well, if you are an antiques, collectibles, or craft dealer, it’s time to reserve a space at the show, which will certainly be busy.  Cost per space is $45.
For a reservation form, call 399-1801. See, it isn’t too early to look toward September.
If you aren’t a dealer, mark you calendars anyway. It’s a great opportunity to get your Christ-mas shopping started. Now that’s really looking ahead, don’t you think?

A more immediate event at the Ocean City Tabernacle grounds is the April 29 Community Yard Sale, which runs from 8 a.m. – noon.
OCHM is currently accepting donations of items for the sale. Surely you can do a little spring cleaning and send your junk to be someone else’s treasure.
If you do have items to donate, please contact OCHM at 399-1801 or info@ocnjmuseum.org to coordinate drop off.

The last news item for this week is another fundraiser. This one doesn’t technically take place in Upper Township or Ocean City, but it’s for a good cause, which benefits all residents of Cape May County.
The event is the first annual “Friends of VIM” Beef ‘n Beer, which will be held on May 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Windrift Hotel and Cocktail Lounge at 80th Street and the beach in Avalon.
Friends of VIM is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support and promote Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County.
VIM provides free medical care for citizens of the county who have no health insurance or who are under-insured.
The VIM clinic is located on Route 9 in Cape May Court House.
The benefit will feature a full buffet dinner of roast beef sandwiches, all the fixings and your choice of house wine or draft beer.
Ongoing entertainment will highlight a variety of live acoustic guitarists and vocalists from the South Jersey area, including Patty Blee, Matt Portella, Jim Maher, Bob Anderson, Danny Barry, Chris Morana and the duo of Sandy Sofroney and Mike Mormando.
The evening will also include a 50/50 and door prizes to be awarded throughout the event.
Tickets are available prior to the event and at the door for a donation of $25.
To purchase tickets, to donate to Friends of Vim, and/or to donate a door prize, please contact either Marcy Lefevre at 368-6787, Micki Goldberg at 463-3529 or Stu Hartman at 675-0472.

I hope you will have a chance to support one or all of the great causes I’ve written about this week.
Please keep all of your event news coming to me. It’s easy! Just call (972) 271-1088 or email herald.events@gmail.com.
In the meantime, have a wonderful week.
