It’s getting to be that time of year when you just want to get out of the house after work, isn’t it? There’s no need to hibernate with a bowl of stew and a good book or the latest television show now that April is here. This week, I have a few suggestions for ways to cure your cabin fever while helping some good causes.
First, I’ve mentioned this benefit here before, but now that it is here I wanted to give you one last reminder.
Head over to the Ocean City Arts Center at 1735 Simpson Ave. and donate $10, which will earn you a Macy’s shopping pass good for 15 to 20 percent off all of your purchases on April 4.
If you donate $20, you will get the pass and a one-year membership to the arts center.
If you’re an ambitious shopper, get to Macy’s early on the big day.
The first 1000 shoppers through the doors will earn a $10 gift card.
There will also be special “free gift with purchase” offers and the chance to win a $500 shopping spree.
So go buy yourself some new spring clothes or something to spruce up your house, and know that you are supporting the Ocean City Arts Center.
On April 5, you have another chance to support the Ocean City Arts Center’s Pottery Studio and Habitat for Humanity, which is one of my favorite charities.
Simply visit the arts center from 6 to 8 p.m. for their “Empty Bowls Benefit,” during which you’ll enjoy your choice of delicious desserts.
Best of all, you’ll get to take home a lovely bowl! The donation is $15 per bowl, and it’s sure to be a fun night out.

The excitement is building as the twenty-first annual Doo Dah Parade approaches.
As regular readers of this column already know, Mickey Rooney is the grand marshal of the parade, and I’m please to announce that tickets are now available to the tribute and buffet that will honor this special guest.
The Tribute will be held at 8 p.m. in the Tabernacle Auditorium, Fifth and Wesley Avenues. It will include performances by professional comedians and musicians, vocalists singing hit songs from Rooney’s movies and Broadway shows and video clips of his career highlights shown on two large screens on both sides of the Tabernacle auditorium.
Rooney will watch the show and then take the stage to receive a proclamation and talk to the audience.
After the show, he and fellow comedian, Soupy Sales, will greet fans, sign autographs and pose for photos in the foyer of the auditorium where there will also be a dessert buffet.
Tickets for the show and buffet are $20 and are available at the Public Relations Office, City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., or call 525-9300.
