Upper Township 2/15/2006

By Rick Racela

Today is my parents’ wedding anniversary, tomorrow is my birthday, and this weekend is that lovely winter-long weekend honoring those wonderful, long gone Presidents.
This week always means fun in my family, whether it’s just a couple of special celebratory meals or a full-blown winter vacation.
This year, there’s no vacation planned, but that’s fine by me.
I’ll gladly share some cake this weekend when I head to north Jersey to see my family, and maybe mom will take me shopping.
That’s really all I need to commemorate my favorite week.
This time of year also means it’s time to think about spring sports.
You can register your children, ages six through 14, for in-line hockey on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Middle School Library.
Fees are $50 for one player, $75 for two and $100 for three or more.
***
You can sign up girls in grades one through eight for softball at one of the free skill clinics hosted at the Community Center from 6:15 to 8 p.m.
Bring along a glove, bat, and sneakers.
If it’s your first time signing up, bring a copy of their birth certificate, too.
Fees are $20 for one player, $35 for two players or $45 for three players.
Call the Recreation Department for information about other sports sign-ups at 628-3343.

The Ocean City Historical Museum (OCHM) is pleased to announce its slate of officers and trustees for 2006.
Taking over as president is Fred Miller.
Filling the vacancy of vice-president is Stephen Gring.
Local resident Gretchen Bingham will continue her role as board secretary and Beverly Hill, who is a C.P.A., will continue her role as board treasurer.
After serving 10 years as president of OCHM, Paul Anselm, will continue to serve on OCHM’s Board of Trustees as past-president.
Eight local residents and dedicated volunteers will continue their roles as OCHM trustees and they are Margaret Christian, Kenneth Cooper, Jay Gillian, Richard Grimes, David Hartzell, Robert Mohr, Margaret Schock and Dorothy Turner.
In addition to OCHM’s officers and current trustees, OCHM is pleased to welcome four members of the community to its board to serve three-year terms: Sylva Bertini, Douglass Longenecker, Daniel Murray and Dr. Richard Stanislaw.
Thanks to board members and trustees, both new and old, for giving so generously of their time to OCHM and the community.

Don’t forget to bring your little ones to story time at the Upper Branch Library.
Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. children are invited to join the group.
They’ll surely cultivate a love of books while developing good listening skills.
Call 628-2607 if you have any questions.
