PETERSBURG – The Upper Township Committee honored a long-time colleague with a resolution, Dec. 12, to recognize and appreciate Committee Member John Coggins for his eight years of service overseeing township financial affairs.
Coggins was originally going to run in the November 2022 General Election as an independent, not as a Republican. Coggins had previously been elected as one of five Republicans on the township committee. Differences of opinion about expenditures, such as for the hiring of the new business administrator, especially considering Upper Township’s budget concerns, gave rise to the change. However, Coggins ultimately decided not to run in last month’s election. Mayor Curtis Corson cited Coggins’ “integrity and hard work.” Coggins, for his part said, “Upper wouldn’t be half as nice if not for the people who work for the township.”
The township committee also honored Kyle Lindholm, Dec. 12, for being named both the Upper Township Citizen of the Year, and the Cape May County Volunteer of the Year. Lindholm’s voluminous record of serving as a public service includes as a first responder, as an emergency management service specialist and as a fire department volunteer. Mayor Curtis Corson said Lindholm has been instrumental in working with the youth of the county to inform and engage them with these types of volunteer opportunities.
