OCEAN CITY- On August 6, 2013, at approximately 3:00pm, the Ocean City Police received information in reference to a possible hazardous device in a vehicle at 36th Street and Central Avenue. The Ocean City Police Department, Cape May County Prosecutors Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cape May County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit and Atlantic City Bomb Squad were contacted to assist with the investigation.
The investigators were able to locate the person in possession of the vehicle and interview him in reference to the hazardous device. Once the interview was concluded a search of the vehicle was conducted by the Atlantic City Bomb Squad to secure the device in question. Additional searches were conducted at residents in Millville and Strathmere, New Jersey where the accused lived. The device is described as a homemade smoke grenade. Based on what was located in the vehicle, the below charges were filed against the accused, Zachary Kranefeld, 21, of Millville, New Jersey:

Kranefeld is a full time college student in New York State and is currently working as a lifeguard for the City of Ocean City Beach Patrol.*****
Authorities received information on Tuesday that there was some type of firework or smoke device in a car located near 36th Street and Central Avenue in Ocean City. The Atlantic City Bomb Squad was called to the scene to handle the device. The Ocean City Police Department says there is no threat to the public and the owner of the vehicle is cooperating with police at this time. The situation is under investigation.
