UPDATE: Fire Strikes Woodbine Dwelling

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

WOODBINE — Woodbine volunteer firefighters, assisted by Dennis and Belleplain firefighters, were called to a structure fire at 633 Grant Ave Friday, Nov. 28 at 9:36 a.m.
According to Woodbine Fire Chief Clarence Ryan, the fire is believed to have started by a electrical short in the first floor heater room.
The residents of the house, Nelson and Carol Viera, were not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, but a pet bird was reportedly killed in the fire, said Ryan.
The structure sustained heavy damage, and the fire was declared under control at 10:17 a.m.
Belleplain Emergency Corps and State Police also responded.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal Office investigators were detailed to the scene to ascertain the cause of the fire.
