Villas Road Work Scheduled

By Press Release

VILLAS — On or about April 9, the reconstruction of Bayshore Road, County Road No. 603, from Wilde Avenue to Weber Avenue in Villas section is slated to begin.
Due to the tight working conditions and ensuring the safety of the motoring public, traffic will be detoured to parallel streets to Bayshore Road during construction.
The work is being broken up into phases to limit the length of Bayshore Road that will be closed at any one time. Each phase of work on Bayshore Road will require complete closure of that section of roadway for approximately two weeks.
This is due to the reconstruction of the roadbed which requires excavating to a depth of 14 inches and replacing with six inches of a gravel mixture and eight inches of hot mix asphalt.
The first phase of work beginning April 9 consists of replacing deteriorated or out-of-grade concrete curbs, sidewalks, and gutters between Alabama Avenue and Weber Avenue.
Traffic on Bayshore Road will be detoured to Weber Avenue to Main Street to Cardinal Avenue to Yuma Avenue to Georgia Avenue and then back to Bayshore Road.
This first phase of work also involves the Bayshore Road intersection with Fulling Mill Road. Westbound Fulling Mill Road traffic desiring to go north on Bayshore Road will be detoured at Franklin Avenue to Weber  Bayshore Road will be detoured at Woolson Road to Greenwood Avenue and then to Bayshore Road.
The second phase of work between Wilde Avenue and Fulling Mill Road is anticipated begin in late April.
Northbound Bayshore Road traffic will be encouraged to use Greenwood Avenue to Woolson Road to Fulling Mill Road to Bayshore Road, or motorists will be forced to detour at Wilde Avenue to Woolson Road to Fulling Mill Road.
Southbound Bayshore Road traffic will be encouraged to use Weber Avenue to Main Street, then west on Georgia Avenue to Yuma Avenue to Wilde Avenue to Bayshore Road or motorists will be forced to detour at Fulling Mill Road to Woolson Road to Wilde Avenue.
The work under this contract is weather dependent, and therefore the completion of each phase of work is controlled by weather.
The project is expected to be substantially completed on or about June 8.
Motorists are requested to be patient with the construction work and the congestion associated with the detours, and they are advised to drive with care when traveling through the construction zone and residential neighborhoods.
This work under the county’s $791,843.80 construction contract awarded by freeholders to South State, Inc., Bridgeton, on Dec. 12, 2017.
The construction oversight on the project is being provided by Churchill Consulting Engineers, P.C., Berlin.
