TRENTON – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a pavement rehabilitation project that will resurface more than 11 miles of deteriorated pavement on Route 147 in Cape May County and on Route 9 in Atlantic County.
According to a release, beginning at 7 a.m. May 6, until 5 p.m., and continuing Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc. is scheduled to set up temporary shoulder closures on Route 147 in both directions for concrete curb repairs and other construction activities.
Work will begin at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 147 and move east on Route 147 through Middle Township to West Anglesea Drive in North Wildwood.
Upon completion of the curb repairs, overnight lane closures and traffic shifts will be required for milling and repaving from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day, Monday through Friday, for a few weeks.
Route 147 has two lanes and a shoulder in each direction. To begin, one lane of Route 147 eastbound will be closed, with traffic shifted to the right shoulder, to maintain traffic during construction.
Work will alternate between eastbound and westbound lanes.
In June, work will commence on Route 9 in Somers Point, Linwood, Northfield and Pleasantville in Atlantic County.
The $8 million state-funded project in the two counties includes improvements include roadway milling and paving, curb replacement, and installation of approximately 90 ADA compliant ramps. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being used throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
