NORTH CAPE MAY – Contractors are preparing their work area on Roseann Avenue, where street flooding has been a problem for a decade.
Township Engineer Mark Sray updated council on Sept. 17 that the contractor, Agate Construction Company, is mobilized and sheet piling is expected in the area shortly. A preconstruction meeting with the contractor, township and representatives of utility companies was also held.
The project had been delayed through the summer due to a permit needed for de-watering, however those final permits are expected to be in hand by early next week and work can begin on that part of the project.
“Residents in that area have been having problems with flooding since 1985,” said Councilman Dave Perry. “I am so happy that the construction is beginning and the residents will finally see some relief.”
The extensive remediation project that includes a replacement pipe plus the installation of a large, underground pumping station to help remove water from the line and keep it out of the streets.
The project will provide protection against a projected five-year flood event and offer more versatility of use because the township could control the water flow to ensure flooding is optimally managed.
