By Press Release

WILDWOOD – Rio Grande Avenue (C.R. 661) will be closed between the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Dec. 9-11, due to ongoing roadway construction.
According to a release, the county’s roadway contractor, South State Inc. is installing drainage pipe, concrete curbs, concrete sidewalks, and the southeasterly bridge parapet as part of the ongoing Rio Grande Avenue Gateway project.
During the improvements, the contractor has been able to maintain traffic during construction activities.
However, the depth and complexity of drainage piping that is scheduled to occur across Rio Grande Avenue and Susquehanna Avenue intersection will not allow for a safe and expedient installation of the piping if traffic is maintained.
Consequently, traffic will be prohibited from entering the construction zone during this nighttime construction activity.
Motorists heading south on Route 47, Route 9 and the Garden State parkway wishing to enter Wildwood during this closure period should take Indian Trail Road (C.R. 618), Route 147, and Exit 6 of the Garden State Parkway respectively in order to access Wildwood via route 147 thru North Wildwood.
Similarly, northbound Route 9 traffic is encouraged to access Wildwood via Route 147.
Northbound Garden State Parkway traffic should use exit 4 and travel west along Route 47 to Route 9 and follow the Route 9 detour to Route 147.
Rio Grande Avenue/ Wildwood Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic at the westerly foot of the George Redding Bridge, at Shawcrest Road.
Local traffic wishing to access Shawcrest Island will be permitted to do so along Wildwood Boulevard. On the east side of the project, Rio Grande Avenue/Wildwood Boulevard will be closed at the intersection of Park Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue during this night construction activity.
Local businesses such as Wawa, TD Bank and Cape Urgent Care will continue to remain accessible via Hand Avenue. Rio Grande Avenue will be re-opened to normal traffic patterns beginning at 6 a.m. on Dec.9, 10, and 11 and remain under normal traffic patterns between 6 a.m. thru 8 p.m. on those days.
Drivers are urged to plan accordingly.
