The Ocean City Pops present Melissa Manchester

By On Deck Staff

The Ocean City Pops Orchestra, with artistic director William Scheible, present Melissa Manchester on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. at its historic venue, the Music Pier, located at Moorlyn Terrace and the boardwalk. Hear this Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter perform hits such as “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” “Midnight Blue,” and “Lovers After All.”
Melissa Manchester was born in New York where her father was a bassoonist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and her mother was one of the first women to design and found her own clothing line, Ruth Manchester, Ltd. They introduced her to all the classics, and by 15, she was already a published poet.
After graduating from the High School of Performing Arts, Melissa entered NYU and enrolled in a songwriting class taught by Paul Simon. She landed a staff writing job at Chappell Music and performed as a solo singer/pianist in the clubs of Greenwich Village where she met Bette Midler and Barry Manilow.
Recently, Melissa debuted her new song “Power of Ribbons” in front of a crowd of 50,000 at this year’s Revlon Run/Walk For Women in Los Angeles, and followed that with an encore performance at a sold-out Dodger Stadium. Melissa will be donating all royalties from the song to the ongoing battle against breast cancer.
Tickets are available for $25 by calling the box office at 609-525-9291 or online at www.ocnj.us.
