I don’t know about you, but I’m always hungry. I mean when I finish lunch, my first thought is – what should I do for dinner?
Well, if you’re like me (and I think most of you are) the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) in Cape May always aims to please.
The organization – a multi-faceted non-profit that promotes the cultural enrichment of greater Cape May for its residents and visitors – offers numerous gastronomic events and programs throughout the year.
MAC hosts tasty events such as Sunday brunch walks, Ghosts and Goodies Tour around Halloween, Taste of Christmas, Cape May’s Spring Festival, as well as dinners at the Mad Batter and Carriage House Tearoom and Café all year.
Some of the upcoming gustatory events sponsored by MAC for September include:
• Sept. 4, 6, 12, 19, 26 and 29 take the Cape May Sampler Tour and Tea by visiting two famous Victorian bed and breakfast inns followed by tea in the Carriage House Tearoom.
• Sept. 14 through Nov. 4 enjoy Consuming Passions: Victorians and their Food. (See the story on page XX.)
• Sept. 15 – 20 marks the 11th annual Cape May Food and Wine Festival in which MAC asks you to “indulge yourself in ‘the restaurant capital of New Jersey.’”
• Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. the city’s Harvest Food and Wine Tasting kicks-off the festival with sample dishes inspired by local products accompanied by wines from Cape May Winery.
• Also on Sept. 15, the winery will host a cellar tour and tasting with cheese and fruit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Sept. 16 from noon until 4 p.m. at the Cape May Winery the Gourmet Marketplace and People’s Choice Chowder Contest will take place. Cheer on your favorite chefs in a cook-off and vote for the best chowder.
• Sept. 16 –20 you can enjoy Gourmet Lunches each day or a Chefs’ Dine-Around, which is a five-course gourmet meal with each course served at one of Cape May’s premier restaurants.
• Sept. 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. dig into a Beer Tasting Dinner at Aleathea’s Restaurant where beer expert Gary Monterosso will match each course with a different beer.
• Sept. 28 – 30 there will be a Spirited Cape May Weekend including a wine tasting dinner at the Washington Inn, a winery cellar tour and a wine school class featuring Australian wines back at the Inn.
• Sept. 29 marks the Oktoberfest on Jackson Street featuring crafts, vendors, an Oompah Band and, of course, authentic German cuisine.
Wow, if that list doesn’t make you hungry, nothing will!
I’ve already penciled into my schedule three or four stops at these events for September, and I’m looking for room for a couple more. Maybe I’ll see you out there.
