Keep the Valentine’s Day romance alive by attending the Sweetheart Concert in the Starlight Ballroom at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The Wildwoods have played a tremendous role in rock ‘n roll musical history and this is a great opportunity to see three incredible bands perform live that have contributed to the rich music scene in the Wildwoods. The musical legends include Sonny Turner’s Platters, Mel Carter, and the Carmen Dee Orchestra.
In 1959, Sonny Turner replaced Tony Williams as the lead singer of the original Platters. Sonny brought The Platters back to the pop charts in the 1960s with hits such as “I Love You 1000 Times,” “With This Ring,” and “Washed Ashore,” as well as re-recording major Platter hits like “Only You,” “The Great Pretender” and “The Magic Touch.”
Mel Carter holds a place in pop history with his hit song “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” which was released three decades ago, yet still remains a classic tune today.
His musical talent has led him to produce one hit song after another and Mel has also built an impressive career in American television. Other hits from Mel that landed on the pop charts include “All of a Sudden My Heart Sings” and “Band of Gold.”
For 35 years, Carmen Dee played in the band at Palumbo’s Restaurant in Philadelphia, which became the “make it or break it” center for numerous singers and bands many decades ago.
In 1994, he decided to take the band on tour to various venues throughout the tri-state area. The Carmen Dee Orchestra specializes in the Big Band sound and is true to please any audience.
