TRENTON – New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner issued the General Assignment Order for the Court Year 2017-18 on July 7. The order becomes effective Sept. 1.
For Vicinage No. 1, Atlantic-Cape May, soon-to-be judges Christine Smith and M. Susan Sheppard will take their oaths shortly, according to Trial Court Administrator Howard Berchtold. A public ceremony will likely take place later.
He noted in the vicinage there were three judicial vacancies and three new posts for a total of six judges to oversee cases in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
Smith and Sheppard were among the 20 new judges appointed as part of the state’s Criminal Justice Reform.
County designation indicates where the judge is primarily assigned.
