Summer concert series heats up

By On Deck Staff

North Wildwood’s very popular “Concert Under The Stars” concert series continues through the month of August with some the biggest variety of free entertainment available during the summer at the Jersey Shore. Six huge concerts still remain through the month of August, featuring live music that includes genres from beach party, oldies, classic rock, and more.
“This year’s ‘Concert Under The Stars’ series is truly the best lineup of entertainment to date”, said North Wildwood Mayor Bill Henfey. “The city is proud to make the summer experience even more enjoyable with these free concert events all summer long. August will truly be a month to remember in North Wildwood”.
All performances during the “Concert Under The Stars” series take place at the Lou Booth Amphitheater at Second and Ocean Avenues in North Wildwood, at 8pm
One of the highlights of the August lineup is a performance by Jimmy & The Parrots, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band (see attached photo). Jimmy & The Parrots will be performing on Saturday evening, August 16th at the Lou Booth Amphitheater. This band has delighted crowds in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Connecticut. Jimmy & The Parrots have also been a featured band for the last several “Meeting of the Minds Parrot Head” conventions in Key West, Florida. In October, 2004, the band released a CD of all original tunes, called “Better Than New”; the CD received rave reviews.
Another highlight of the August lineup will be a live performance by the legendary soul group “The Platters”. The Platters will perform on Sunday, August 30th; show time, 8pm. The Platters originally formed back in 1953, and enjoyed an illustrious career. The Platters turned out hit after hit, including “Only You”, “Harbor Lights”, “If I Didn’t Care”, among others. The Platters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The Platters also earned the distinction of being the only musical act to have three hit records on the soundtrack for the movie “American Graffiti”.
“The ‘Concert Under The Stars’ concert series is truly a compliment to the vacation experience in North Wildwood”, Henfey said. “From Radio Disney Night on the boardwalk on August 19th, to the big Tri/Du Triathlon event, there’s really something to do each and every day, and evening in North Wildwood”.
