Storytellers needed

By On Deck Staff

Next spring, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will launch a new story-telling program called “Our Story Begins…”
This program will use trained storytellers to bring alive 300 years of Cape May history, from the pirates of the 17th century to the auto races and rumrunners of the 20th century.
MAC is currently seeking adult actors of all ages to work outdoors as historical storytellers for the upcoming tourist season.
Actors should enjoy local history, have a good memory, and like interacting with people, especially children. This is a part-time position from mid-March through Dec. 2009 and pay is $12 an hour.
Housing and transportation are not included. Candidates will be invited to audition in early January 2009, based on how well their experience and skills listed on their resume match the needs of the program.
MAC plans to offer this story-telling program for free at five different locations: the Washington Street Mall, the Beachfront Promenade, the Welcome Center, the Emlen Physick Estate and the Cape May Lighthouse.
This program is modeled after the highly successful “Once Upon a Nation” series in Philadelphia’s Independence National Park, and is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Cultural Trust.

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts is an Equal Opportunity Employer. No auditions will be held without an appointment.
