COURT HOUSE – The 350-acre Stone Harbor Country Club has been acquired by a rapidly expanding national company.
The Heritage Golf Group self-identifies as the fastest growing country club lifestyle company in the nation. The company’s website boasts that Heritage has grown from six owned clubs to 30 in three years. Stone Harbor Country Club makes it 31.
A June 22 announcement by the Heritage Group provided no details on the acquisition, simply stating that it is an “off-market transaction with the Fishman family.”
The company press release said, “We are excited for the opportunity to expand our footprint in New Jersey, entering the renowned Cape May market.”
Heritage has three other properties in New Jersey, all in the New York metropolitan area.
The Stone Harbor golf course was designed by Desmond Muirhead, a nationally respected golf course designer. Among other properties, Muirhead designed the Muirfield Village course in Ohio with golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
The Stone Harbor property is an 18-hole, par 72 course.
The release announcing the acquisition quotes Lee Fishman, a member of the family selling the club, saying, “I believe it is the right fit for our membership to have Heritage to take Stone Harbor (Country Club) forward and continue its legacy as a leading private club.”
