COURT HOUSE – APRIL 8: State officials announced that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state rose by over 3,000 since yesterday, including 275 new deaths, the worst single day of deaths associated with the disease yet. The state figures now list three deaths in Cape May County.
Gov. Phil Murphy told the public, “We are not at any plateau.” State projections see a potential peak in cases between April 19 and May 11, Murphy said. Health officials say a best-case scenario will see an additional 40,000 cases before a peak is hit.
Four counties adjacent to New York City – Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union – account for 50% of the confirmed cases and 56% of the reported deaths.
The state breakdown of cases by county concurs with the report from the county health department last evening, 100 total confirmed cases. However, the state and the county continue to differ over deaths, probably due to a difference in accounting for a North Jersey man, who had family in Ocean City.
The two deaths both sets of statistics agree on are the 72-year-old woman, from Upper Township, reported on April 4, and the 86-year-old male resident of the Victoria Manor facility, in Lower Township, reported yesterday.
