BURLEIGH — On Dec. 23, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Middle Township Police Department responded to the Cedar Springs Mobile Home Park, located on North Wildwood Boulevard in the Burleigh section of Middle Township, for a reported stabbing.
Upon police arrival, the victim, John Paulsen Jr., 32 years old, was found to have a large stab wound to his torso and required immediate medical attention. Mr. Paulsen was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City, NJ, for an emergency surgery by the Middle Township Rescue Squad. Mr. Paulsen’s remains in stable condition.
During the investigation, Axel Hernandez-Candelaria, 34 years old, was located and placed under arrest. Mr. Hernandez-Candelaria was charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained at the Cape May County Correctional Facility, pending court proceedings.
Mr. Paulsen and Mr. Hernandez-Candelaria are both Middle Township residents and were permitted to be at the Cedar Springs Mobile Home Park at the time of the Aggravated Assault.
The Middle Township Police Department’s Patrol Division and Major Crimes Unit investigated, with the assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
