COURT HOUSE – A dual Eagle Scout Court of Honor was convened for Boy Scouts Raymond L. Sipple of Troop 65, Court House, and Tyler J. Flynn of Troop 73, West Cape May.
The long-time friends’ ceremony was one of the first of its kind with multiple units participating, according to Senior Scout Executive William Wasekanes.
Flynn and Sipple were accompanied by their families at the ceremony held in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House.
Sipple’s project was constructing a nature trail at Bradner’s Run by Historic Cold Spring Village. It included clearing brush and debris, creating natural steps, adding a split-rail fence and making access easier and safer.
Flynn’s project was at the Fishermen’s Memorial on Cape May Harbor. The beach area there was littered with kayaks and boats chained to trees.
Since the memorial is a tribute to commercial fishermen lost at sea, Flynn believed it deserved to be a place of respect. He led a team that designed and built racks for kayaks in an organized, neat manner.
Scoutmasters Robert Elwell from Troop 73 and Mark Iacona presented Eagle pins to their scouts.
As is the custom, Eagle pins were placed on the scouts’ uniform by their mothers. The boys then gave special pins; Sipple to his mother and father, Terri and Ray Sipple; Flynn to his mother Carol Flynn and Grandfather William J. Flynn.
The event was attended by state, county and local officials including Sen. and U.S. Representative-elect Jeff Van Drew, Assemblymen Robert Andrzejczak and Bruce Land, Freeholders Gerald Thornton, E. Marie Hayes, and Will Morey, Sheriff Robert Nolan and Surrogate Dean Marcolongo.
Rev. Doug Spencer, the pastor of First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House, gave the invocation and Benediction.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
