SIC harborfest scheduled for October

By On Deck Staff

Sea Isle City’s first Harborfest celebration, a festival that focuses on the resort’s natural bayside environment, waterways, boating and active commercial fishing industry, will take place on Saturday, October 4. According to event organizers, Harborfest will offer something for everyone.
Many activities are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the town’s marina district, 42nd Place and the Bay. In addition to a variety of craft and food vendors who will participate in the event, there will also be an interesting oyster exhibit by Port Norris Oyster as well as a live animal exhibit by the Cape May County Zoo. Additionally, there will be scallop and clam shucking demonstrations, personal watercraft, kayak and fishing demonstrations, and a sailing demonstration by the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City.
There will be plenty of good music at Harborfest, including the Daisy Jug Band, who will perform from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and a live radio broadcast by WAYV 95.1 FM. Other scheduled activities include a dunk tank and back bay tours onboard The Star Fish.
At 3:00 p.m., local clergy leaders will offer a “Blessing of the Fleet.” Also, Sea Isle City’s Fire, Ambulance and Police Departments will have emergency response vehicles on display.
Those who love friendly competitions – and those with hearty appetites – won’t want to miss the clam-eating contest at 4:00 p.m. This event is open to the public and participants can sign-up on site prior to the contest. During this competition, surprise celebrity guest judges will award winners trophies and other great prizes, such as Eagles football tickets.
Throughout the day, youngsters will enjoy the “Children’s Fun Area,” which will feature magic shows, a moon bounce, face painters, balloon artists, clowns and a craft station run by local Girl Scouts. All of these special children’s activities will be provided free of charge.
Harborfest is sponsored by Sea Isle Revitalization, in cooperation with the City of Sea Isle City. For additional information, phone (609) 263-0488.
“This event will help extend the fun that we all enjoy during the summer months here in Sea Isle City and it will give everyone a taste of the flavors associated with our bountiful waterfront community. We’re very excited about Harborfest, and we feel that it will offer something everyone, ” said Event Chairperson Rachael Morrison, owner of Haven Boutique.
