RIO GRANDE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announced findings by the New Jersey Office of the State Medical Examiner surrounding the death of Vincent Weiner, 13, in Rio Grande June 4.
The state’s final autopsy report showed Weiner’s death to be a direct result of a deadly mixture of heroin mixed with fentanyl.
Fentanyl is an extremely powerful and deadly controlled dangerous substance (CDS), which is approximately 100 times more potent than heroin.
Fentanyl is legally available as a skin patch, lozenge, pills, a film that dissolves in your mouth, or by an intravenous injection. Most often when used illegally, the substance is converted to a powder form by drug distributors and mixed at a dangerous and uncontrolled level with heroin.
Prosecutor Taylor added that all illegal drugs are dangerous and that the county has seen an increase in the number of heroin bags submitted to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Laboratory, which have tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.
Prosecutor Taylor also stated that no one is immune from this epidemic, whether young or old, race or economic status, people should refrain from using these deadly street drugs and warn their loved ones of these dangers as well.
Prosecutor Taylor is again warning the community about the dangers of heroin use and rising number of drug-related overdoses, which have impacted the community and the unfortunate trend of heroin being mixed with fentanyl unknowingly to users.
Prosecutor Taylor urges families to educate their children and loved ones as to the dangers of such illegal drugs and to continue to report any information regarding illegal drug activity and or any criminal activity within the community.
