Post 331 Marks Flag Day

Bill Lehman of Post 331 American Legion

By Al Campbell

STONE HARBOR – American Legion Post 331 commemorated Flag Day (June 14) with a flag retirement ceremony and had oaths of office administered to new officers for the coming two years.
Overseeing the ceremony and administering the oaths was Jim Scanlon, past department vice commander.
First order of business was the retirement of tattered and unusable flags.
Following prescribed ritual, the flags were honorably burned after being deemed no longer suitable for use.
After they were burned, incoming commander Thomas McCullough stood by Scanlon as he took his oath, with outgoing Commander James Fleischman watching.
Lined up in front of Scanlon in the side yard of the former U.S. Lifesaving Station were the incoming officers: Joe Stenger, first vice commander, Russell Migeot, second vice commander, Martha Schultz, adjutant, John Morrison, financial officer, Rev.”Father”  Jim Betz, of St. Brendan the Navigator Church, chaplain, Debbie West, service officer, Art Faint, historian, Bob Levins, sergeant-at-arms.
Trustees were Jon Ready, Bill Lehman, Harry Clayton, Jim Fleischman and Dick Herb.
