WOODBINE– A political newcomer in this borough is concerned with complaints he received from voters alleging questionable campaign practices and irregularities.
Roger Geene, a retired U.S. Postal Service employee, ran as an independent Republican for one of two council seats in the Nov. 2 general election. He lost that bid receiving less then 16 percent of votes.
“I have no disillusions about the outcome of the election; I lost. But I can’t, in good conscience, ignore reports of possible acts of voter fraud and the alleged questionable behavior by other candidates that were brought to my attention,” Geene said in a phone interview Mon., Nov. 15.
Geene would not immediately discuss any specific allegations, or which candidates were involved, until county officials receive his complaint.
Geene has filed for a recount, according to the County Clerk and Board of Elections office. The recount will take place on Nov. 29, at 8 a.m. before Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten.
Geene said he intends to file an official complaint with the county Board of Elections requesting an investigation this week, and would further discuss the allegations once that is filed.
“Nothing will change the fact that I lost, but the fairness and integrity of future elections needs to be protected,” Geene said.
Geene is asking residents who are aware of people voting in Woodbine who don’t live within the borough to report them to the Board of Elections with any other concerns they have with possible fraud and unfair campaign practices.
