RIO GRANDE — Committee Candidate Mike Voll tried to explain Middle Township’s form of government in a release.
“So many don’t understand, and many think my opponent and I are running for mayor of Middle Township,” Voll said. That’s not the case, said Voll, who is a former mayor.
“We are running for Township Committee,” he explained. “We are a three member governing body. In the first 7 days of the year we have a reorganization meeting to kick off the New Year. At this meeting, the mayor is chosen by the three member governing body. The mayor serves ‘year to year’ and becomes the chief executive of the community.”
Voll said that Middle Township was incorporated in 1798 – “212 years ago.”
“Our Township sure has grown, and we still have a three member Committee form of government,” he said.
“The Committee members are assigned areas of responsibility to oversee. Public Safety, Public Works, and Revenue and Finance are the main responsibilities,” he said. “Any action that affects personnel, or spending of your money items must be voted on at a public meeting.”
“On Nov. 2 Election Day, you will be voting for me or my opponent to Middle Township Committee, and then the first of the year one of us may become the mayor,” he said. “Susan Delanzo is in Column 2 – as a Democrat, and I am in Column 3 – as an Independent.”
Voll said the most important thing is to get out and vote for the future leadership of Middle Township.
