State Sen. Jeff Van Drew got a shout-out from Governor Chris Christie.
The governor said he was glad to see Van Drew, unlike some Democratic lawmakers in the Legislature, “hasn’t forgotten” that elected officials are put in office to protect taxpayer money – not government funding.
Christie was speaking about Van Drew’s public support of the governor’s recent tax cut proposal.
“I’m gratified that Sen. Van Drew is supportive of the tax cut and said so publicly. I think there will be other Democrats who will come on board because they understand that it’s an important thing to do and that it’s long overdue, and that this whole language about ‘how do you pay for a tax cut’ is backwards,” Christie said.
“It’s their money in the first place. It’s our job to figure out how to pay for it,” he said.
“I have enjoyed the working relationship I have had with the Governor and will continue to support his tax cut plan. Working together we have been able to help South Jersey move in the right direction whether it was saving the Vineland Developmental Center, taking down the traffic lights on the Parkway, or building a new south bound bridge over the Great Egg Harbor he has kept his word. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans, it’s about getting the job done,” said Van Drew.
