Tricia Hendricks Announces Run for Cape May City Council

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Patricia (Tricia) Gray Hendricks, local real estate broker and civic activist, announced her candidacy for Cape May City Council today.
“Cape May needs strong leaders who represent the interests of our diverse community, from our youth to our Coast Guard families, year-round residents, seniors, businesses and visitors. Our small, tightly-knit community becomes a large city “in-season” and we must be ready to respond to all while maintaining Cape May’s character and integrity.”
Hendricks has been a resident of Cape May since 1985 and unabashedly expresses her passion and concern for the beach community. She has won broad support for her Council candidacy because of her knowledge and keen insight about City issues. Local residents know they can count on Tricia to raise pertinent questions with elected and appointed officials whenever the need arises.

Tricia’s early life was adventuresome and filled with learning opportunities since she grew up traveling throughout the United States and overseas as the daughter of a US Air Force intelligence officer. Her commitment to community service was kindled early through participation in the Girls Scouts and, in high school, as a student representative to her town’s City Council. Following graduation from George Washington University, Tricia taught social studies in the Washington, DC public schools.
As a Cape May resident, Tricia continues to be called on as a valued leader. She was the first female Commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May, 2015 President of the Cape May County Board of Realtors®, Director, New Jersey Realtors® Board of Directors, and First Vice President of the Cottagers Association of Cape May 2015-2016. She was named Outstanding Realtor® of the Year by the Cape May County Board of Realtors® in 2011. A proud member of the Kiwanis Club, Tricia volunteers in their Education and Fundraising projects.
An inveterate public policy expert and regular attendee at City Council meetings, Tricia is informed, knowledgeable and insightful about Cape May issues. Of special concern are beach safety, police leadership and public safety, law suits and legal expenses, equitable enforcement of City ordinances, parking, the need for handicapped access at the post office, the erosion of proper execution of public business under Cape May’s governance structure and the absence of teamwork and unity among the City’s elected and appointed officials.
Tricia sees her City Council candidacy as natural extension of her long commitment to public service. She is deeply interested in making Cape May a better place to live, work, raise a family, vacation or retire.
On a personal note, Tricia and her husband have a son, Charles, Jr., who resides with his wife, Lauren and their 3 month old daughter, Frances Jane (Frankie) in Brooklyn, NY.
