School Board Candidates Ready Petitions; Filing Deadline’s July 28

COURT HOUSE – Students are thinking only of summer vacation and getting out. School board candidates, on the other hand, are only thinking of getting in. While it may be summer, thoughts of candidates fly fast forward to November’s election.
Positions up for school boards throughout Cape May County that will be voted in the Nov. 4 general election have been posted at the Cape May County Clerk’s website: www.capemaycountyvotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/2014-School-Board-VacanciesWEB.pdf.
According to County Clerk Rita Fulginiti, nominating petitions must be filed by the deadline of July 28 at 4 p.m. The County Clerk’s office will continue to update the list of candidates as petitions are received.
Petition forms and candidate information are also available on the election website or by contacting the clerk’s office at 465-1013 or 465-1016.
Candidates for seats on board of education must meet the following qualifications:
• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be able to read and write
• Be a resident for at least one year preceding the date of election in the municipality which he or she seeks election.
• Is not disqualified as a voter in regard to NJSA 19:4-1
• Is not disqualified from membership for the conviction of crimes pursuant to NJSA 18A:12-1
Those seeking more information may contact the clerk’s office in person at 7 N. Main St. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
