Primary Election Will Decide Who Carries Party Banner in November

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE – Unless Cape May County Democratic and Republican voters know beforehand the candidates they will select in the June 7 primary election, it might take a while in the booth. Turnout will likely increase in this election since it includes presidential candidates.
Polls will remain open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Voters must remember, they will be asked to declare their party in this election. That will enable the poll worker to secure the opposite party’s ballot. Unaffiliated voters may vote. However, they must declare a party to cast a ballot. At a later date, they can change that selection by contacting the county Board of Elections.
In addition to the candidates listed below, Democratic and Republican County Committee candidates with four-year terms are on the ballot in each of the county’s 127 election districts.
Election officials expect a number of personal choice or “write in” candidates to qualify for the post in those districts where “no petition was filed.” A qualifying candidate is one who has at least the number of votes as signatures needed for a petition in the Primary, has the highest number of votes and accepts the nomination by signing a Certificate of Acceptance and Oath of Allegiance in the municipal clerk’s office within seven days, according to County Clerk Rita Fulginiti.
