Primary Election Results Fix Races For November General Election

COURT HOUSE – In Cape May County, the June 5 primary election resulted in 10,845 votes cast, a 16.32 percent turnout, of the 66,432 registered voters, according to the Cape May County Clerk’s office, with the unofficial local tallies.
At the top of the race, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, will attempt to retain his seat while Republican Robert Hugin will aim to win the post. Menendez received 259,973 votes to win the intraparty contest against Lisa McCormick, who received 158,011 votes.
Hugin got 167,201 votes while Brian Goldberg received 55,313 votes in the GOP race.
In the sprawling Second Congressional District, where Republican U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo chose not to seek reelection, Democrat Jeff Van Drew was his party’s choice among four candidates with 15,654 votes districtwide.
Other Democrats were Tanzira Tanzie Youngblood, with 5,417; William Cunningham with 4,739 and Nate Kleinman with 2,443.
Republican Seth Grossman topped his party’s list of four candidates and received 10,106 votes.
Other Republicans were Hirsh Singh, 7,906; Samuel Fiocchi, 6,071 and Robert Turkavage, 1,842.
Fiocchi, a former First District assemblyman, took Cape May County with 2,537 to Grossman’s 1,982. Turkavage got 600 and Singh, 951.
In the county, Van Drew, a former Dennis Township mayor and freeholder, received the most votes with 2,685 votes. Youngblood received 900, Cunningham, 555, and Kleinman 259.
Freeholder
Republican incumbent Leonard Desiderio received his party’s nod with 5,056 votes. His Democrat challenger will be Jeremiah Schenerman, who received 2,411 votes.
Municipal Races
Dennis Township
Republican Frank Germanio Jr. got 283 votes for the full, three-year term. Matthew Cox received 270 votes for the one-year unexpired term.
Democrat Dorothy Merlino received 258 votes for the full committee term. Renee Pettit received 247 votes for the one-year unexpired term on the committee.
Lower Township
Council Ward 1: Democrat Carmela Pallotta got 234 votes. Republican Thomas Conrad 235 votes.
Council Ward 2: Republican David Perry, 315, Democrat Thomas Poussart, 293.
Council Ward 3: Democrat Chris Marlowe, 293, Republican Roland Roy Jr. 362.
Middle Township
Democrat incumbent Township Committeeman Jeffrey DeVico received 688 votes; Republican Theron “Ike” Gandy got 721 votes.
North Wildwood
Democrats had no candidates in the city council race.
Council 1st Ward: Republican James Kane, 146 votes.
Council 2nd Ward: Joseph Rullo, 110 votes.
Stone Harbor
Democrats had no candidates for borough council.
Republicans Raymond Parzych, 115, and Robert Levins, 102.
Upper Township
Township Committee, two vacancies.
Republican incumbents Richard Palombo, 913, Edward Barr, 958, Jon Grubb, 341.
Democrats had 22 write-in votes for the seats.
Woodbine
Mayor: Republican William Pikolycky, 52 votes.
Borough Council: Republicans Michael Benson, 50, Joseph Johnson III, 43.
Democrats had no candidates for mayor or council.
