COURT HOUSE – James Norris, a lifelong Middle Township resident and member of the Middle Township School Board, earned the unanimous endorsement of the Middle Township Regular Republican Organization as the party’s 2019 candidate for Middle Township Committee.
The vote took place at the organization’s March 5 monthly meeting.
“I’m truly humbled and honored to accept this endorsement,” Norris stated in a release. “I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting the voters and sharing our message of lower taxes and smarter municipal government. I fully support Mayor (Timothy) Donohue and Deputy Mayor (Theron “Ike”) Gandy’s forward-thinking movement built on a foundation of fiscal responsibility, open government, and citizen involvement. I’m running to ensure this movement continues and that all members of township committee are committed to this mission.”
Norris, a third-generation township resident, grew up in Rio Grande and Green Creek and purchased his first home in Del Haven in 2017.
Norris is a 2010 graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School and received an Associates Degree from Atlantic Cape Community College in 2013.
Norris’ passion for youth and community development led him to seek a seat on the Middle Township School Board. Elected as board’s youngest member in 2017, he chairs the Discipline and Policy committees, while also serving on the Staff Relations & Negotiation, Transportation, and Finance committees.
Norris was also selected as the board’s 2019-2020 delegate to the New Jersey School Board Association.
“I’m proud of Jim and excited to see him step up to seek this Township Committee seat,” Mayor Donohue stated. “He came to our organization with an interest in politics and public service, fresh out of high school in 2011. He may only be 27 years old, but he has been involved in our mission for better local government for nearly a decade and has run a successful campaign for Middle Township School Board, where he has served with distinction. I look forward to hitting the campaign trail together in the coming months.”
Norris is employed as a job developer for the non-profit Jersey Cape Diagnostic, Training, and Opportunity Center. The organization works to provide an array of employment and training programs that encourage personal achievement, growth, and productivity for individuals of all abilities.
“I see public service as a life-long commitment. It is an honor to serve,” stated Norris. “I love Middle Township, have bought a home here and will be getting married this fall. I think it is time for the folks in my generation to step up and take an active and positive role in building a better world. I hope my campaign can inspire younger voters to pay attention and get involved.”
