CAPE MAY – Zack Mullock is an entrepreneur and business owner who understands the importance of tourism to the community, according to a release. He is seeking a seat on Cape May City Council in the Nov. 6 general election and has filed a petition with the city clerk.
“I believe it is an important balance between bringing in tourism, increasing revenues, and maintaining a good quality of life for our residents and our tourists. This is our hometown, not just a cash cow,” he stated.
“Cape May needs leaders who understand this balance and will work hard to maintain it.”
“Recently, it seems that there has been a strong push for commercialism, and changing of our zoning laws. While supporting our local businesses is very important, uncontrolled commercialism and development will hurt our community.”
“Cape May is a major success; it is the envy of so many other towns. Private investment, local entrepreneurs, Zoning, Planning, HPC, and our other boards are responsible for making this town something very special. I want to thank and honor the sacrifice of so many people who have made Cape May the best town in New Jersey. Why would we change now?”
Zack has been in leadership roles throughout his school life and career. He was student class president in college.
He is on the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation Board and a member of the Historic Preservation Commission.
“I am running for several reasons. One I was born here, I grew up here, and now I am raising my family here. I care deeply about this city and the direction it is going. The focus of this administration flatly neglects Historic Preservation. Sometimes living here we forget just how special this place is. Preserving our history and our National Historic Landmark are of the outmost importance and will guarantee our city will be extraordinary for years to come.”
City taxes, municipal bonds, school taxes, water and sewer have all gone up. All while several projects including the Wise-Anderson/Lafayette St Park have gone stagnant.
There sadly seems to be an attack on our zoning, planning, and historic preservation. Mullock stated, “The administration hired a Camden County mayor to take over the redevelopment process. The hired Camden County mayor said, “Those who advocate the current structure of review boards and the “protections” of zoning ordinances are kidding themselves.” Mullock added the consultant was quoted in the media as follows: “The governing body can change the zoning ordinance now, without recourse for redevelopment.” In arguing for redevelopment, he urged that zoning, planning, and HPC can all just be changed by the council anyway.
I believe the redevelopment zone was and is an ongoing disaster. This town already has a great mix of entrepreneurs, business owners, and homeowners.
It has supported the dreams of many and should continue to float all boats. Generations of Cape May’s leaders have worked together to make Cape May what it is today.
Cape May deserves a leader with vision, who looks out for all of our citizens. It deserves leaders who are capable of understanding complex issues, respects Cape May’s rich traditions, and has the capacity to handle multi million dollar budgets.
We need leaders who are willing to work together with all elected officials, employees and citizens to unite us together for the common good & do what is best for Cape May.
