Mastrangelo Seeks Reelection to Stone Harbor Council

By Herald Staff

STONE HARBOR — On Nov. 2, borough voters will select two council members for three-year terms from a three-man field.
Two are Republicans, an incumbent and political newcomer; the third is nomination by petition and is a former council member.
Barry D. Mastrangelo, Republican, has been on the governing body for nine years, and is currently its president.
“I feel I have always tried to build consensus and minimize conflict in order to do what is best for Stone Harbor. Reaching out to other council members is not something that all council people have historically done and it’s to the community’s advantage that I do it,” he stated.
“Maintaining and improving our streets, sewers, outfall pipes, curbs, fire hydrants, buildings and grounds and other necessities are not always hot political issues, but are vital components of keeping Stone Harbor special.
As chairperson of the Public Works Committee, he has:
• Helped develop and implement Phase I of the beach outfall pipes removal.
• Completed installation of the Borough’s first solar panel energy and cost saving project on the Public Works building.
• Taken a leadership role during recovery and restoration process during the back-to-back blizzards of 2010.
• Helped adopt and implement the borough’s Emergency Storm Warning System.
“My experience and familiarity with the workings of the town contribute substantially to things running well. Informed decisions, based upon a good understanding, result from experience, engagement and commitment,” he continued.
“Being a business owner and parent of children who have been through the school system means that I understand the many perspectives of life in Stone Harbor. My business also brings me into constant contact with an important dimension, the second homeowner and the summer visitor who are so important to our community.
Listening to these groups is a vital part of understanding the needs and wishes of the town,” he stated.
“As senior councilperson and council president, I serve both as a role model and mentor to our four newest council people. I continue to be true to the role of ‘Government’ by keeping ‘Politics’ outside of Borough Hall and will continue to demonstrate a commitment to the ‘Big Picture’ through open discussion and never having a personal agenda,” he concluded.
